Saraswati Puja is the greatest festival of students.

In this festival held in winter students worship Saraswati,the Goddess of learning.

The deity is dressed in white sitting on the lotus.

There is a musical instrument called ,'BINA' in her hands.

There is a gander neat the goddess.

The goddess is beautifully dressed with ornaments.

The pandal in which the goddess is worshipped is delightfully decorated with flowers and beautiful designs of colour paper. 

This festival is arranged and organized by students and they are guided by teachers.

The image of the deity is brought to the pandal the previous day.

Then the decoration and Illuminations are started .

One or two gates are Mede in the school campus.

On the  morning of the festival students arrange everything for performance of 'puja' .

After Puja students offer 'puspanjali' or floral tributes at the feet of the goddess.

Then 'prosad' is distributed among students, teachers, assembled guests and guardians..

Cultural programmes are also held in the evening in some schools.

Students sing songs, recite and stage dramas there.

Next dey the image is immersed in the local river or big pond.

Then a pall of sadness discends on the minds of students.

They start waiting for the Puja next year.

Saraswati Puja helps students become good leaders and organizers in future.

They also come closer to one another and to teachers and the public.

This is a great significance of this festival.

A Cricket Match

   A Cricket Match 

A Cricket Match Introduction,venue, teams, scores, conclusion.

Last Thursday a friendly cricket match was played between our school and the neighbouring pakuria C.A. High school on our school playground. All the students were taken to the field to encourage the home team and good cricket on either side.

The match started at 12 noon.

The captain of our school team toss and elected to bat first.

Our openers Pradip and Tapan began the innings.

They were playing well but when our score was 25 our first wicket fell.

Then our middle order batsmen batted brilliantly and we reached 80 for the loss of three wickets from fifteen overs.

Every boundary and overb boundary was thunderously cheered by the huge home crowd.

Our school team s innings ended after they had made 167 for 6 from the stipulated twenty five overs.

Soham pal who scored 57 was our highest scorer.

The opponent team went in to chase the big score after half an hour break.

They made a disastrous start losing some early wickets.

At one stage,they were 16 for three wickets, thanks to the spirited seam bowling by our new ball bowlers.

However,they made a good recovery in the middle stage of their innings.

Their captain koushik played a sheet anchor role.

They reached the hundred mark by losing 4 wickets.

At that stage, they needed 58 runs off 50 balls.

But our team did not lose heart, thanks to the strong support of the home crowd.

Our bowlers maintained a tight line and length well supported by excellent ground fielding.

Our fielders took off spectacular catches and effected two run outs .

This was the turning point of the match.

In the last over the opponent side required 11 runs.

Our bowlers Soham pal kept his nerve and bowled really well .

He conceded one four and a few singles.

The guests needed just 3 from the final delivery.

The spectators were on their fee. The final delivery wasl sent down and was hit hard.

But the batsman was caught at long on .

The hopes of the opponent's to win the match were shattered.

Soham pal Wes  adjudged the man of the match for his all round performance.

The Television

The television is one of the marvels of modern science and technology.

The credit of inventing it goes to the Scottish scientist J.L. Baird in 1929. It is the process of transmitting a view of actual or recorded events by radio to a distant receiving set.

The radio gives us only the sound but the television gives us both the sound and the picture. TV has been the most powerful medium of entertainment and education.

It entertains us with varieties of programmes of songs, dramas, dances, debates,discussions,news,views,games and the like.

The television is also an effective medium of education.

Quiz programmes and UGC programmes increase the knowledge of students. 

The masses can be made aware of the rules of health and hygiene.

Farmers can be taught how to cultivate their lands by applying the right amount of manure and using the right kind of seeds.

The display of operations will help medical students immediately.

The television can also be used for adult education which is the crying need of India. But the television is not an unalloyed and unmixed blessing to us .

It has its abuses.

It makes viewers idle and inactive.

The display of the scenes of sex and violence lower the moral standards of young people.

We should be hence quite careful in watching TV.

A Visit To a Fair

 A Visit To a Fair

On the occasion of "RATHAJATRA" or Festival,I visited last year the famous fair held at Mahesh near serampore.

I went there on the evening of the day along with my parents and younger sister.

The fair was quite a large one.

There were hundreds of shops with things and articles both of necessity and luxury.

People crowded all these shops and werbuying and bargaining over articles necessary in our daily life.

Children thronged in front of toy shops .

An atmosphere of din and bustle always prevailed in the fair.

The merry -go-round Wes the biggest attraction for children.

I had a ride on it with my younger sister and we enjoyed the ride greatly. Flower and fruit plants and saplings were selling like hot cakes from nurseries there.

I puchased a few of them and my sister bought balloons and toys.

At last,we entered a food-stall and had some refreshment there.

Then we came back home tired and exhausted but very happy and fully contented.
